The Coshocton County Veterans Service Commission helps to educate local veterans about their benefits, transportation services, emergency financial assistance, and acts as a liaison between the veteran and other local, state, and federal veterans service offices.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families

For very low-income Veterans, SSVF provides case management and supportive services to prevent the imminent loss of a Veteran’s home or identify a new, more suitable housing situation for the individual and his or her family; or to rapidly re-house Veterans and their families who are homeless and might remain homeless without this assistance.

    1. It must be determined that the veteran/the veteran’s survivors or those responsible for the funeral are without means to pay.
    2. Applicant (other than funeral home) will provide a financial statement with the application for burial assistance.
    3. Applicant will provide the VSC with an itemized statement from the funeral home listing all expenses. When the benefits are claimed the entire amount to be contributed by the VSC toward the cost of the burial or cremation shall not exceed the sum of one thousand dollars and that any remaining costs are paid by the family or friends of the deceased.
    4. Applicant will provide the VSC with a copy of the Separation document and death certificate.
    5. Applicant will provide the VSC with a statement from the nursing home on the amount the veteran had in the account (if applicable) and its usage.
    6. All applications will be acted upon within 30 days of it being submitted to the VSC. They will be acted upon at the next regular scheduled meeting if time allows for the investigation by VSO staff.
  • Applications must be submitted by the family. The only time an application by the funeral director will be considered is if there is no family or next of kin.

LGBTQ+ Veteran Care

There is an LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator (LGBTQ+ VCC) at every facility to help veterans get the care they need. VHA policies require that their health care be delivered in an affirming and inclusive environment and that VHA employees respect their identity. Contact the LGBTQ+ VCC at the nearest facility.
